30 Characters: #11 – Ardent

November 12, 2011

Off duty police officer Hector Jimenez was working the over night security shift at the city Museum when suddenly one wall of the building fell in on itself.  A wild fight between a pair of super villains and the government’s Super Powered police, Project 402, raged.  Officer Jimenez, just 2 years out of the Academy and knowing that he was in no way capable of subduing these criminals, attempted to escape the building. Unfortunately for Hector that meant maneuvering perilously close to the villains.  One small misstep drew the wrong kind of attention and in no time Hector was pinned to the ground just a moment away from immolation.  He grabbed blindly into the rubble for anything to try help him escape.  His hand closed around the hilt of a sword.  Hector swung that sword with all his might just hoping to somehow distract his enemy for a second and escape.  Instead…the sword struck that villain with a massive explosion.    Hector laid there in stunned disbelief while his foe landed 40 feet away in a smoking pile.

The sword that Hector had grasped was the Ut Ardent, an ancient relic that was on display in the museum.  Turns out the sword contained some type of mystical intelligence and, recognizing that Hector was a pure heart and was about to be killed, it bonded with Hector granting him access to it’s considerable powers. Hector now carries the Ut Ardent and fights crime along side Project 402 as Ardent.
