Topps Star Wars 2017 Masterworks

November 8, 2017

The day has finally arrived! Topps Star Wars 2017 Masterworks collectible card set is finally in stores! Which means I can present all the sketch cards I created for the set. On this particular set, the cards provided to us to draw on were ridiculously nice. Maybe the best from any set I’ve worked on to date. They are 1/16″ illustration board. The surface was super smooth and they held my Copics GREAT! I feel like the color really pops on them.

I’m very proud of the art I created on these cards and was honored to be asked to work on the set. I hope you like them as much as I do!! As always, I have Artist Proof cards available from the set if you’re interested (CHRISTMAS!)

Thank you!

About 50 times a day I make an observation or tell myself a joke in my head and think “Heh. That would make a funny tshirt.”

Well I’m taking my own advise and have started actually making them into shirts which you can now see (and hopefully buy!) on TeePublic. Here are a couple of the newest! Topps Star Wars Galactic Files AP

August 7, 2017

Hello everyone! Thanks for coming back to my website.

The Topps Star Wars Galactic Files Reborn collectible trading card set hit store last month and, as you know, this was the first set I provided sketch cards for! It took me almost 10 years to get on a Star Wars set for Topps so I wasn’t about to waste this opportunity!! Find out more about the set at the Topps website.

My 6 remaining Artist Proof Cards

I’m told the set is selling well and I’ve already seen several of my cards popping up on the internet from all over the world (which is super fun to see!). Now I’m offer the Artist Proofs I received back from the set for sale. I am very proud all the cards I created for this set and especially of these Artist Proof cards. They are $100 each (plus shipping if you live further away from me than I can drive) and are ready to be your right now!

You can either message me directly at eric@geekywhiteguy.com or find them in my store at: http://geekywhiteguy.storenvy.com/

Thank you so much for your support!

The All New GeekyWhiteGuy.com!

August 1, 2017

There has been SO MUCH going on behind the scenes lately for me! On top of all the regular family summer time madness (activities for our four kids, camping, vacationing, etc), my day job, the long-term color job that I kicked back into gear and the Star Wars sketch cards I’ve been creating  for Topps (wheew…I’m exhausted just typing that all out) I’ve also been updating my presence on the internet!

In the past, all my work and portfolios were posted here, on my WordPress site, but I never really loved the way it looked and worked. WordPress is GREAT at being a blog site. Not so great at being the portfolio site I wanted. Back in 2008, when I originally built this site, I was happy with it but was sure that it wouldn’t be around forever. There were too many menus and clunky links needed for visitors to get my work. I shared it a lot but was always a little embarrassed to do so because I knew it looked very amateurish. So now, everything has been completely rebuilt in a clean format specifically to spotlight my artwork and to connect with my audience. GeekyWhiteGuy.com is now a stand alone site with a link to this wordpress site, my StoreEnvy site, my Facebook art page, plus all my social media pages. All the pages are now branded to look and feel the same and I hope my message is loud and clear. So here’s what I have to present to you today!

GeekyWhiteGuy.com

The all new GeekyWhiteGuy.com! With it’s simple design you’re drawn directly into one of 6 Galleries! Illustration, Digital Coloring, Graphic Design, Sketch Cards, Graphic Design or my Complete Portfolio. You’ll also find my  links to all my other locations on the web, pricing menus, information about me and contact me links. This was a huge project for me and it seems like every day I’m find little things here-and-there that need to be fixed so if you find something that looks broken or doesn’t work right I encourage you to drop me a message to let me know so I can get it fixed.

The GeekyWhiteGuy WordPress Site

The blog right here at geekywhiteguy.wordpress.com Along with styling it to match everything else, I’ve removed all the portfolios and cleaned up the links. This site is STRICTLY for news and views! This also allowed me to retain the years of blog posts I’ve posted here. It’s fun (and sometimes terrible) to go back and see my old work.

The GeekyWhiteGuy Facebook Art Page

Next I have the Facebook Art page at facebook.com/GeekyWhiteGuyArt/ Coming up here pretty soon I’ll be setting my personal FB page to private and unfollowing the people I don’t personally know. This will allow me some piece of mind when I post about my kids, house or other personal things. Now, though, people will still be able to connect with me through my art page! This will ALSO allow me to reach a larger audience with my art! How many billions of people have a Facebook account?

The GeekyWhiteGuy Art Store

Eventually I will have a store integrated directly into my main website, but for now you can still purchase original art from me through  StoreEnvy.com/geekywhiteguy Again, I’ve restyled the site to match and will be adding my Topps Star Wars Artist Proofs here as well this week!

I’ve also began to actually use my Instagram account at instagram.com/geekywhiteguy

There’s my somewhat underutilized Pintrest page at pintrest.com/geekywhiteguy

And as always you can find all my ramblings on Twitter at twitter.com/geekywhiteguy

Thanks again for all the support everyone has shown me over the years. Please browse around my sites, if you haven’t already please follow me on all the things, send me a message if you like what I’m doing, share my sites with all your friends and, as always, if you would like some artwork done please let me know!!

Thank you!

Star Wars Galactic Files Reborn – In Stores July 19!

July 12, 2017

Remember back in February when I announced I had been hired by Topps to create some sketch cards for an upcoming Star Wars collector card set? Well that set is finally coming out next week! In preparation for that, today Topps  released the set list which also includes the list of all the sketch card artists on the set (all 77 of them!). That list includes my name (thereby confirming that I am not insane and that this cool thing did actually happen!)

The official set list can be found on the Topps website, but I’m better than that so you can find that list right here in the fancy promo I created just for you! Please go out next week and buy some packs! Maybe you’ll get lucky (or unlucky…?) and pull one of my cards!! You’ll find them in WalMarts, Targets and any local comic book and/or collectibles store. Or online on a million different websites.

TWENTY THOUSAND VIEWS!!!

May 9, 2017

In 2011 I was wanting to try and draw something digitally on a standard comic book size sheet but I wanted all the guides and everything to be there. I searched and searched but couldn’t really find anything useful so I decided to create it myself. I did and it worked out great. That got me thinking…if it worked for me it would probably work for other people too so I posted the .PSD file as a free download on my DeviantArt page (which, by the way, is about 80% garbage to please don’t spend any time looking at it).

Since that time it has been far-and-away the most popular thing I have ever posted. So popular that it has tipped over 20,000 views and 3500 downloads! I know those numbers are what some people get before noon but for me it seems like a big deal. (be happy for me, dammit!)

If you’d like to view and/or download my digital comic book board template you can do so by clicking here.

Thank for the views you 20,000-ish anonymous people! You made my day!

My BIG Announcement!

February 22, 2017

In 2008 I discovered that some people were hired by companies to draw sketch cards. If you don’t know what a sketch card is first of all…what have you been doing with your life? A sketch card is a trading card (the size of a “baseball” card) which is a blank on one or both sides that an artist draws an original drawing on. I often sell these when I table at conventions because are small, relatively inexpensive and don’t take a ton of time to create compared to a large piece. The way I discovered sketch cards was that I heard people were being hired to draw Star Wars cards for the Topps trading card company. I knew instantly that I was going to try to get work on a Star Wars sketch card set. I went to work right away practicing the art of drawing small and getting together a portfolio of work that might help me land it! I reached out to people I knew that may be able to help me contact the powers that be. Emails were sent and I waited to hear back. No one contacted me.

A few months later I worked on a couple sketch card sets so I gathered up my revised portfolio and submitted again! This time with a little work under my belt (some of it not really completely terrible) I felt like I was sure to get in. No one contacted me.

Months later with even more card sets in my portfolio, I submitted again. No one contacted me.

This cycle went on for the next 9 years. Every 6 months I would gather up a portfolio and send it into Topps in hopes of getting on a set. Actually…after a couple years of submitting I just wanted to hear back from them. ANYTHING back from them. Even a “Got your portfolio and it sucks” type of response would have been great!! But, no. Not a peep. Still, every 6 months I would submit my portfolio.

Last month, to my incredible surprise, I got a response! An invitation to work on an upcoming set! I replied right away that I would love to…then heard nothing for a couple weeks. I was just beginning to think maybe someone at Topps HQ made a mistake sending me the invite message when I received another form letter type email saying “If you are reading this email we have shipped cards to you”. I was bouncing off the walls but decided that I wouldn’t say anything about this until I got the cards in my hands. Just my luck I would announce it…and somehow Topps would file for bankruptcy or Trump would sign a new presidential order banning any type of artwork smaller than his hands (which are crazy small). I’m happy to say that today…the cards showed up!!

This is where the magic happens!

It’s official! I have been hired to draw for the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic File sketch card set by Topps!! I have 50 cards plus 7 Artist Return cards and could NOT be more excited about it! I’m not legally allowed to post any of the drawings I create until they are complete and approved so you won’t see any of my work until sometime in mid-to-late May but you can be sure that I’ll post everything I’m allowed to the moment they tell me it’s ok. Between these cards (which I couldn’t ever say no to), the other work I already have on the books and the rest of things I have to do every day/week/month I plan on being fairly unavailable for any sort of human interaction for the foreseeable future. Don’t worry, though. I’ll be right here…making art.

For more information about the Star Wars: Galactic Wars card set please visit Topp’s website.
